Transitioning from Traditional Web Design to the Optimal Multi-Device Experience

What an experience!
The ambience...entrancing, enchanting
The service….consistently excellent and sensitive to the guests’ needs
Efficient and flexible service
Exceeds expectations!

You might think we are talking about a five star restaurant, but we aren’t. We are describing your website, if it follows the principles of responsive design. Website design has evolved greatly from the static web pages of the nineties. Seek out award-winning websites today and you will see how the design has been elevated to the point of fine artistry. But a website is more than beautiful design. Like a fine establishment, a website must offer its customers excellent service in a comfortable, well-designed setting.

Customers Expect Consistency and Flexibility

Your website must offer your customers a consistent, outstanding experience from start to finish—regardless of the device, platform and/or browser they choose to employ. Just like in the hospitality business, the customer is king! Your website can be the digital equivalent of Michelin five-star resort or it can be an outdated greasy spoon serving overcooked burger patties and limp fries. Responsive design guarantees consistency and flexibility across platforms, browsers and devices to ensure the most efficient and best quality viewing experience.

Flexible Layouts Adapt to Any Screen Size

Restaurateurs know that menus must be cleverly engineered, taking consumer psychology and food trends into account. Ever tried slogging through one of those ten-page menus crammed with dish selections from every ethnic cuisine under the sun? You’re still on page five when the waiter shows up! It is just as annoying as trying to adjust a shrunken version of the full-screen website on a mobile device so you can read the small print. Some websites seemed shoe-horned into the screen. This bad fit frustrates the customer and gives a bad first impression of your business. It looks as though you got your 14-year-old nephew to create your website for you! A responsive design allows for a flexible layout so that regardless of the size of the viewport, the site looks perfect.

Websites Look Beautiful On Any Device

Responsive design anticipates a customer’s needs and takes into account possible issues. For example, information in table form would convert to lines automatically if the customer’s screen resolution is quite small. Text should wrap around perfectly, not just shrink. Images should be clear across all environments. A responsive web designer knows which designs suit each device best. Customers today use a diverse array of devices throughout the day, but they want a seamless experience whether they access your brand’s website on their company’s iPhone, their personal android tablet or their laptop. Responsive design makes your website look beautiful in all environments.

Layout Provides Comfortable Navigation While Maximizing Profits

Additionally, consumers want to be able to navigate the site easily and comfortably. Navigation should be smooth with all devices, browsers and platforms. Remember, your web presence is providing a complete experience! Due to the much smaller screen size, desktop displays must be modified on mobile devices. Sidebar widgets and navigation menus will probably not be in the same place as on the desktop version. A responsive design will reposition the navigation devices, perhaps by stacking menu buttons. The position of items in a reduced visual environment must be carefully considered to provide the optimal interactive experience while maximizing the profitability of the layout and content.

Links Load Efficiently

Responsive design keeps the consumer’s comfort at the forefront. Customers do not like to be kept waiting for a waiter to appear with the menu or the bread basket, nor do they want to wait more than a second for a website to load on their phone. Since mobile devices rely on touch screens instead of a mouse, good responsive design tries to keep the number of taps needed for a task to a minimum. The navigation links may have to be resized to allow for larger thumbs to tap the link with accuracy. Mobile websites may have to be simplified in accordance with slower internet connection speed to make loading quicker.

Responsive Websites Rated Higher by Search Engines

If the thought of having your customers hate your website because of slow-loading pages, unplayable content, crowded text and confusing navigation isn’t enough to convince you of the benefits of responsive design, ponder this: Google ranks websites by their mobile friendliness. Your brand’s standing on the number one search engine will plummet if your site is the Bates Motel of mobile sites. Optimize your web presence with exceptional responsive web design which will generate a greater impact and a powerful exposure of your brand. Divpixel can provide your customers with a high quality, fluid multi-device experience where your website’s visually pleasing design will remain clear and consistent on screens of all sizes.
